Yes, an Indian resident can buy Ford — legally, in US dollars, under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS). F trades on NYSE. It pays a base quarterly dividend plus an annual supplemental dividend. Ford is restructuring around three segments: Ford Pro (profitable commercial vehicles), Ford Blue (ICE consumer vehicles including the F-Series — the best-selling US vehicle for 47 consecutive years), and Ford Model e (EVs, currently loss-making). The investment thesis is whether Ford Pro's profitability can subsidise the EV transition while Model e moves toward breakeven.

What Ford actually is

Ford Pro (commercial): Transit, Transit Connect, E-Transit, Super Duty, F-150 for fleet and commercial buyers. Pro also sells software (Ford Pro Intelligence) and financial services to commercial fleet operators. This is Ford's highest-margin, fastest-growing segment — EBIT margins of 15%+.

Ford Blue (ICE consumer): Mustang, Explorer, Bronco, Ranger, Maverick, Escape, Edge. Hybrids (Escape Hybrid, Explorer Hybrid) are growing within Blue. This is the stable cash-flow engine funding the EV transition.

Ford Model e (EV): Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, E-Transit. Losing $3B+/year as Ford invests in EV-specific plants and supply chain. Ford has moderated EV spending after demand growth was slower than anticipated. Path to Model e profitability is a key investor question mark.

Ford Credit: Captive financing arm — profits from leasing and retail financing of Ford vehicles. Provides financial services income independent of manufacturing margin.

Tax and compliance

Capital gains: 12.5% LTCG after 24 months; slab for shorter holds. Dividend: 15% US WHT (W-8BEN) + Indian slab; FTC via Form 44. Schedule FA mandatory.
