How to buy Redwire (RDW) stock from India

Buy Redwire (RDW) from India legally via the LRS, in INR. Redwire builds in-space infrastructure — ISS solar arrays, commercial station components, and spacecraft structures. Undervalued at 2–3× revenue vs peers. Section 112 capital-gains guide for Indian investors.

Yes, an Indian resident can buy Redwire — legally, in US dollars, under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS). RDW trades on NYSE. It pays no dividend. Redwire is the most attractively valued pure-play space infrastructure stock in the public market — the company that built the solar arrays installed on ISS spacewalks, and is now building components for the commercial space stations that will replace ISS.

The 30-second version

  • Legal and simple. Buy RDW via Vested, INDmoney, or Interactive Brokers India. RDW is less liquid than RKLB or LUNR — use limit orders, not market orders.
  • No dividend. No US withholding or Form 44 complexity.
  • India tax: hold more than 24 months12.5% LTCG; shorter hold → slab rate. Section 112.
  • Estate-tax trap: US-situs asset — above $60,000 of total US-situs assets, up to 40% US estate tax, no treaty relief.
  • The value angle: Redwire trades at approximately 2–3× revenue. Rocket Lab (RKLB) trades at ~10× revenue. Both are space infrastructure companies with real revenue, real customers, and real backlogs. The valuation gap reflects RKLB's launch cachet — but Redwire's $362M backlog, ISS history, and commercial station exposure are real.

How to buy it — 3 steps

  1. Open an account and finish KYC. Interactive Brokers India is recommended for RDW given its lower average daily volume — IBKR provides better order execution than retail-focused platforms on thinner names. Vested and INDmoney will work for small positions.
  2. Fund via the LRS. Cap: $250,000/year. 20% TCS above ₹7 lakh — tax credit, not a cost.
  3. Place a limit order. RDW can have wide bid-ask spreads on thin trading days. Always use a limit order at or near the midpoint; never a market order on a name this size.

What Redwire actually is

Redwire manufactures the hardware that goes inside space — the components, structures, and systems that make spacecraft and space stations function.

iROSA (ISS Roll-Out Solar Arrays): Redwire designed and built the new solar arrays installed by NASA astronauts on ISS spacewalks in 2021 and 2023. These arrays upgrade the station's power capacity from 160 kW to 215 kW — enabling the next decade of ISS science operations. This is the most visible example of Redwire's work: hardware installed by humans in space, functioning daily.

Commercial Space Station components: NASA is funding commercial successors to ISS — Axiom Space (commercial ISS module already attached), Blue Origin's Orbital Reef, Vast Space's Haven-1. Redwire has relationships with several of these programs. Every commercial station that launches will need solar arrays, deployable structures, and avionics — Redwire's core competencies.

Spacecraft structures and avionics: Built components for missions including the Lucy asteroid mission, the CAPSTONE lunar Gateway pathfinder, and multiple DoD satellites.

Space manufacturing: Redwire operates in-space manufacturing experiments on ISS — printing optical fibers and biological structures in microgravity. Early-stage but points toward a future where manufacturing in space is commercial.

Q1 2026 revenue: $68 million (+12% YoY). Backlog: $362 million. Still loss-making at the operating level but improving. The path to profitability runs through commercial station contract awards scaling up.

The $60,000 estate-tax trap

Directly-held RDW is a US-situs asset. Above $60,000 of total US-situs holdings at death, US estate tax of up to 40% applies — no India-US treaty protection. See the estate-tax trap guide.
