How to buy Energy Fuels (UUUU) uranium stock from India
Buy Energy Fuels (UUUU) from India legally via the LRS, in INR. UUUU is a US uranium miner pivoting to rare earth element (REE) processing — the only US mill capable of producing separated rare earth oxides from monazite. Section 112 guide.
Yes, an Indian resident can buy Energy Fuels — legally, in US dollars, under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS). UUUU trades on NYSE American. It pays no dividend. Energy Fuels is a US uranium miner with an unusual second thesis: its White Mesa Mill in Utah is the only facility in the United States capable of producing separated rare earth oxides from monazite. This gives UUUU a dual exposure — uranium spot price and US rare earth supply chain development — that no other single stock provides.

The 30-second version
- Legal and simple. Buy UUUU via Vested, INDmoney, or Interactive Brokers India.
- No dividend. No US withholding or Form 44 complexity.
- India tax: hold more than 24 months → 12.5% LTCG; shorter hold → slab rate. Section 112.
- Estate-tax trap: US-situs asset — above $60,000 of total US-situs assets, up to 40% US estate tax, no treaty relief.
- The dual thesis: Uranium production at the White Mesa Mill + rare earth oxide separation from monazite. The uranium thesis is simpler; the rare earth thesis is early-stage but strategically significant for US critical mineral independence from China. UUUU is rated Skip in the nuclear thematic guide for most investors — the rare earth pivot is interesting but unproven at scale. If you want uranium, CCJ and UEC are cleaner.
Quick facts
| Can an Indian resident buy it? | Yes — fully legal under the LRS |
| Ticker / exchange | UUUU / NYSE American |
| How | IBKR, Rovia, INDmoney, or Vested |
| Minimum | A fraction of one share |
| Dividend | None |
| India tax on gains | 12.5% LTCG after 24 months; else your slab (Section 112) |
| Estate-tax risk | US-situs above $60k → up to 40%, no treaty relief |
| Annual compliance | Schedule FA every year you hold |
How to buy it — 3 steps
- Open an account and finish KYC. Use IBKR for the widest access and best execution, Rovia for a combined RSU + LRS experience, or INDmoney / Vested for a simple India-funded flow.
- Fund via the LRS. Cap: $250,000/year. 20% TCS above ₹7 lakh — creditable against income tax.
- Place the order. UUUU is a small-cap (~$700M–$1.5B market cap) with lower liquidity than CCJ or UEC. Use limit orders. UUUU moves on uranium spot price but also on rare earth policy news (DoD critical mineral contracts, China REE export restrictions).
What Energy Fuels actually is
White Mesa Mill: Located in San Juan County, Utah, White Mesa is the only conventional uranium mill currently operating in the US. It processes uranium ore from multiple mines (including UUUU's own Pinon Plain and Canyon Mines) and toll mills for other uranium producers. The mill's processing capacity — and its NRC licence to handle radioactive materials — is a strategic asset that cannot be easily replicated.
Uranium production: UUUU mines uranium at the Pinon Plain mine (Arizona), Canyon Mine (Arizona), and other sites in the Colorado Plateau region. Production volumes are modest compared to CCJ or UEC. Energy Fuels also holds uranium inventory purchased at lower prices.
The rare earth pivot: Monazite sands (from beach placer deposits, particularly in Brazil and other locations) contain rare earth elements. UUUU has secured a supply agreement with The Chemours Company (which processes titanium minerals, producing monazite as a byproduct) to receive monazite at White Mesa. The mill separates the uranium component and is developing the capability to produce separated rare earth oxides (neodymium-praseodymium oxide, the critical input for permanent magnets). Commercial rare earth production at scale is the strategic goal — not yet achieved.
Why rare earths matter: China processes approximately 85–90% of the world's rare earth elements. Permanent magnets (NdFeB magnets) used in EV motors, wind turbine generators, and defence applications depend on Chinese-processed rare earths. The US government has funded multiple programmes to develop domestic rare earth processing. UUUU's White Mesa is one of the few realistic near-term options for US-based heavy and light REE separation.
The tax that actually matters
| Holding period | Treatment | Rate |
|---|---|---|
| 24 months or less | Short-term | Your slab rate |
| More than 24 months | Long-term | 12.5%, no indexation |

The $60,000 estate-tax trap
Directly-held UUUU is a US-situs asset. Above $60,000 of total US-situs holdings at death, US estate tax of up to 40% — no India-US treaty protection. See the estate-tax trap guide.
